Reminiscent of Nid Vide, when translated from French means Empty Nest, these pieces were inspired by springtime nests where the baby birds have hatched from the eggs and left the nest. A perfect reminder that springtime is right around the corner.
I was in my studio super late one night…well, maybe super early. It was 3:30 am. 🤪 I know, crazy right!
Sometimes the inspiration just hits and you have to set it free in that moment and get it on canvas.
I had some paper pieces that I started cutting up and arranging on my canvas and felt like it resembled a bird's nest. 🪺
Then, I added some hand-molded pieces that felt like cracked open eggs where the baby birds hatched from the eggs and left the nest. Hence the name “Empty Nest”.
They are framed in an acrylic shadow box to protect the cracked eggs and paper and look stunning on a bookcase or an entry table to add some dimension.
